Favorite Holiday
Beverage Recipes (Non- and *Alcoholic)
Snow Ice Cream -
Add 1/2 c. sugar to 1 c. cream, and flavor with 2 tsps. vanilla
or lemon; if lemon juice is used, more sugar will be required. Stir in
newly-fallen snow until thick as ice-cream. Any kind of fruit juice may
be used instead of cream or lemon. In any case the recipe is best if the
snow is added just before serving. |
Eggnog Lite - Ginger
ale, spices, and citrus juices enliven old-fashioned eggnog, making a fabulously
refreshing and lighter version. Whisk 3 lg. eggs in a large bowl until
frothy. Mix in 1 quart orange juice, and 1/4 c. lemon juice, 2 T. sugar,
1/4 tsp. cinnamon, 1/8 tsp. ginger, and a dash of nutmeg & cloves,
or substitute the spices with 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice. Spoon 1/2 gallon
of softened Vanilla ice cream into a large punch bowl, stir in the egg
mixture until well combined. Refrigerate if not serving immediately. Before
serving, pour in 1 quart of ginger ale. |
Crockpot Hot Cocoa
(for a Group) - A welcome treat on a cold winter day!
In saucepan, combine
1 1/2 c. sugar, 1 1/4 c. cocoa and 1 tsp salt and slowly add
3/4 c. hot water, mixing well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly,
until mixture boils. Boil and stir 2 minutes. Pour into crockpot, add 1
gallon of milk & 1 tsp. vanilla; heat to serving temperature, stirring
occasionally, best NOT to boil. Serve with marshmallows or whipped cream,
if desired. |
Bubbling
Jade Punch - Dissolve 2 packages (3 oz.) lime gelatin in 2 cups boiling
water; stir in 4 cups cold water, 12 oz. can (un)frozen lemonade concentrate,
and 2 cups pineapple juice; chill, but not too long or it solidifies!!
Add 2 liters of ginger ale before serving. |
*Home-made Kahula
- Boil 4 c. water, 3 c. sugar and 1/4 c. instant coffee, or brew 4 cups
of strong coffee and add the 3 c. sugar & dissolve. Let cool (1-2 hours).
Add a Fifth of Vodka and 1 Tbsp. vanilla. Stir and chill, best served the
next day. (Even better after a week!) |
*Polar Bear - Mix
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream, 3 shots whiskey, 2 shots rum, and 1
shot brandy or amaretto together in a large bowl. The ice cream will
get soft, store in the freezer. |
*Irish

sugar with a jigger (1 and 1/2 oz.) Irish Whiskey, add hot strong black
coffee to within 1/2" of top, stir, and top with whipped cream. |
*Better-Than-Bailey's
- Mix in order, 2 Tbs. boiling water, 1 Tbs. instant coffee, 1 can sweetened
condensed milk, 1/2 pint whiskey, 1 small carton heavy cream, chill

Chocolate
Roses
Hi! Megan saw
this recipe on "Donna's Day" I went to the website (http://www.ktca.org/donnasday/
)
and it was so COOL
and so EASY I just had to pass this one on - you gotta try it!!
Great for anyone
with kids, fun for us big kids, too!
(P.S. Pass
it on! ;-)
Chocolate
Roses : American pastry chefs invented the recipe and use this
delicious edible clay to make garnishes and unique decorations. Here is
their secret!
Ingredients: 10 ounces
of chocolate chips (or chopped chunks)
1/3 cup light corn syrup
Melt chocolate in
a microwave for 1 minute. Stir. If chocolate is not melted, return to the
microwave for 30 seconds at a time until smooth. (If you don't have a microwave,
place the chocolate in the top of a double broiler over hot water and stir
until melted.) When chocolate is melted, add corn syrup and blend. It will
"ball up". Pour mixture onto a waxed paper sheet. Spread the chocolate
with your fingers until it's about 1/2 inch thick. Cover loosely with waxed
paper and let it stiffen for at least a couple hours or overnight. The
chocolate will become very pliable like "clay".
Making a Chocolate
Rose: Have the kids roll (10) pea to marble-sized balls out of the chocolate
clay. Place the balls on a waxed paper sheet, about 1 inch apart. Place
another waxed paper sheet on top. Press each marble into a flat disk (about
the size of a quarter). Use some pressure! To form the rose: Remove 1 disk
and curl it into a "teepee" shape, narrow at the top and wider at the bottom.
Wrap the next disk around the opening of the teepee and the third disk
at the back of the teepee. This is the rose bud. Keep adding disks which
look like "petals". Continue to layer to create a rose in bloom.
Roses can be used
as edible decorations for a cake or to create a basketful of blooms. They
will harden after a few days and can be saved by storing in a cool, dry
place.
Since this recipe
is the consistency of modeling clay, you can mold any shape you want.
Note: Chocolate can
be substituted with almond bark, or colored candy disks for different colored
flowers
Important note:
Adult supervision and participation is required for this activity. |
Here it is on a
3X5 "recipe card" (.jpg) you can right click, save image, & print out.

Valentines Day! |
